The Hanged Man Major ArcanaTarot Wisdom The Hanged Man

In this card, the man suspended from the tree of life, he’s hanging upside down and appears to be in quite a predicament. Although he’s not really in distress, he’s also not making a lot of progress either. It’s a state of stasis. The halo surrounding him shows that this is a time to listen for Divine guidance in order to correct his position and initiate some much-needed changes. When things seem upside down or stagnant; it’s important to remember that change and motion are the way to free oneself.

Position 1: Background | Present Concern

This card comes up around stagnation or, in contrast, a complete reversal in your affairs that results in a downturn or feeling trapped and uncertain how to get things moving forward again.

Position 2: Your Drive and Motivations

You need a release from struggle and worry, but also feel driven to initiate some much-needed changes. During times of stress, it can be easy to become confused or overwhelmed which may keep you from taking action or allow you to slip back into familiar habits.

Position 3: What’s Blocking You – Fears and Subconscious

Not knowing how to proceed, fear of failure, and feeling powerless to change situations are the challenges presented by the Hanged Man. In order to break through these barriers, it’s important to organize your thoughts and track your progress to keep yourself motivated.

Position 4: Perspective and Further Awareness – What you Need to See Clearly

When things seem to come to a standstill, take the downtime to sort things out within. You may come into answers in these quiet moments that were not revealed previously. Many people find that when their routines change, greater inspiration comes. Adversity often breeds resourcefulness and creative thinking. Instead of feeling “stuck” or allowing yourself to feel unlucky, consciously seek out solutions and do new things to break free from mediocrity or struggle.

Position 5: Course of Action

When we struggle to have control over everything we become unable to see solutions. Be still. In the stillness; you receive the answers that lead to freedom. Struggling and scrambling increases frustration and blocks innovation and answers. Sometimes things “stall out” to give us the opportunity to look for a new approach.
