Tarot Lesson: The Hierophant

Tarot Interpretations of the Hierophant

**If you did not read the previous post/lesson on Starting a Tarot Journal you need to do that now before starting/continuing with the individual card lessons! You can view it Here.

Over time we will have journal entries/lessons for each of the 78 cards. Journals are great for developing an understanding of your cards as you work on them over time. Pull the corresponding card from your deck to use for each of the individual lessons.

********************

For the purposes of these lessons I am using a Waite deck, but the beauty to learning Tarot this way is that you can use a journal for any deck you wish and you will learn it properly! Not by memorizing a bunch of definitions, but by actually connecting with your own cards.

Below is a series of questions for you to consider for each card. By answering the questions in your journal you will be telling your own story… Below the series of questions are my thoughts/interpretations of the cards…. PLEASE do your own journal entry first - so that they are your own unique answers! Trust me it works better that way :)

  • Card: The Hierophant

  • What is the first thing you notice about this card?
  • Who is the Character represented & what is he/she doing?
  • What clothing does the character wear?
  • What Colors do you see?
  • What is the background?
  • How does the card make you feel?
  • What is your initial reaction/response to this card?
  • What additional symbols are in this card and what do they mean to you?

My Journal Entry

(reminder I used the Universal Waite deck for mine)

I notice first of all the Red color and Gold crown and cross. These to me indicate both power and passion. There are people listening to this man and he has a very authoritative energy to him. I sense in this card a lot of tradition and it seems to me to even cross the line into a bit too much pageantry - perhaps this makes the message get lost. More attention has been paid to the ceremony/decoration than to the higher purpose perhaps. The leader has good intentions though and he is a man of service This card tells me that sometimes tradition is good and other times there is a need to look past that and seek ones own truth. The authority figure here feels a connection to the Divine He reminds us that we too are connected to a higher power we can connect with for guidance.

busy busy busy

So I am doing craft fairs and flea markets with my jewelry now on most weekends through the fall to try to pay off some bills and put some money away so I have been terribly busy running 3 businesses now lol.

Once winter is here and the shows are over and the slow season is upon me I will have time to complete all the Tarot lessons and post them here and then find other content to develop as well.

I am developing yet another free reading for my website a free “body/mind/spirit” 3 card reading that I think everyone will enjoy.  When I have a few minutes here and there (not very often at this time of year) I have been working on that too.

Hope everyone is doing well that reads the blog and feel free to keep popping in I will update you all on my progress and hopefully get lessons and such posted very soon.  Sorry to keep everyone waiting!

The background on this card is red/orange. The man sits with on his throne with a very serious, contemplative look on his face. He seems very learned and knowledgeable. He holds himself well. The rams heads on the throne to me speak of power and dominion, strength and the ability to overcome obstacles. The mountains behind the throne to me also suggest that this person has “moved mountains” and is very disciplined and controlled. He has what appears to be armor on the legs/feet and a red cloak on his body. The abundance of red to me speaks of passion and perhaps a bit of temper. The authoritarian aspects. When this card comes up it can indicate a need to take control or be more disciplined in ones own life.

My Journal Entry

(reminder I used the Universal Waite deck for mine)

This woman appears very feminine to me and she is surrounded by all types of goodness. There is a bright sunny sky and a lot of green vegetation.
She has a crown on which gives her a feeling of authority and power, but she isn’t surrounded by material things at all, she is surrounded by nature and a field of wheat. All things that symbolize fertility and abundance.
In her hand she holds a scepter and she looks to be at purpose in the way she is relaxing and taking things in. Her power is more silent and is more like silent wisdom and an inner knowing that she has all she needs around her.
I feel a lot of desire to create or manifest things when i see this card. The woman symbolizes pregnancy and fertility as she is covered by a large gown that indicates being with child. There is a lot of creative force and abundance present.
This card to me represents sustenance, abundance, creation and making the most of what one has been given. Simple abundance and grace.
