How to care for your tarot cards
There are a lot of myths as well as good advice circulating about how to best take care of your Tarot cards.
I personally keep mine in a special drawer dedicated only for my Tarot things. I have a carved wooden box I keep them in that fits them perfectly. It keeps them covered and also keeps them snug so they don’t get bent or thrown around. Many people believe cards should be kept in dark silk or cloth - and that’s fine too
. I use mine so often though that I prefer the box as to unwrapping them over and over. I find having their own personal place to be a sign of respect and for me with so many different decks it’s also just practical ![]()
To keep the energy of my cards pure I personally don’t allow others to touch my cards most of the time. When I do readings in person I have a deck I allow others to touch, but I prefer the ones I use daily to only be handled by myself only. Allowing others to look at or “play” with your cards causes them to pick up the residual energy of those other people and can eventually “confuse” the deck or alter its energy where you don’t connect with it as well. - This too I see as a matter of personal preference though and some readers swear by never letting anyone touch their cards and other readers do allow it - so who’s to say which is the right way.
Periodically I bless and cleanse my cards - just as I do my chakras each day. It’s a way to cleanse the energy fields surrounding you and the cards - your home - whatever you do cleansing work on and it is very beneficial. You can do this by saying a blessing, smudging, a meditation..whatever works for you according to your own belief system.
So there are a few ideas for taking care of your cards. Have a great day!
